I remember when Urban was only, like, four years old, he asked Brian to teach him how to play “Chest.” Well, he was too young then, but now he’s in Cub Scouts, and one of the subjects he can get a belt loop (kind of like a badge) for is Chess. So Brian [...]

A Pharisee with No Head for Numbers
The other day after we dropped Brian off at the airport for his trip to Utah, I took the two little boys to Burger King for lunch. They have a nice indoor play area there, which the kids love.
I hadn’t planned on doing this—it was Brian’s suggestion on the drive—so I hadn’t brought anything [...]

Charlie Boo and The Wudge
These two pictures happened to be taken on the same day, within minutes of each other, when Brian was trying to use up a roll of film. I thought Charlie and Dodger had similar expressions on their faces (though Charlie’s is perhaps a bit cheerier!), and it struck me funny!

The Call to Cull
I could read my life away. I really could.
One of the main reasons I started this blog was because I knew it would force me to do more with my life than just read.
On the other hand, I could have a wonderful blog all about books.

Thanksgiving 2007
We spent our Thanksgiving in St. Pete Beach, at Mom and Dad’s. Their house looks incredible. They have worked so hard, turning a dumpy place into something worthy of the pages of Better Homes and Gardens. I kid you not. When I arrived back home this afternoon, I could see with [...]

Counting My Blessings
After all my going on about how I want to be supportive of my husband in his Lutheranism, and after I said I hoped his Sunday school class wasn’t providing him with ever more negative views of the Catholic church…..Just when I thought things were going really well and all was peaceable…….
Last night he made [...]

The Big Day
Sunday is my busiest day of the week. Because of this, I usually dread Sunday, though I shouldn’t.
It starts with getting up early to get myself and the kids ready for the 8:15 a.m. worship service at the Lutheran church we attend. My diverse Protestant background had me at Lutheran for about four [...]

Dinner with Susanne
Last night I had a guest for dinner. Since we moved to Tallahassee, we’ve only had one other true dinner guest (i.e., someone other than family), and that was last year.
My guest last evening was a wonderful lady whom I got to know last year during my RCIA process at the Catholic church. [...]
