“Pink Sky in the Morning….”

Pink Sky on Lake
Oh, how I wish I had a digital camera! This morning when I opened the bedroom blinds, I was astounded to see that everything in sight had a rosy-golden glow. It was one of those pink-sky mornings sailors used to be warned about: “Pink sky at night, sailor’s delight; pink sky in the morning, sailor’s warning!”

This picture is from the Microsoft Clip Art Gallery—a site I grew to love when I used to work at the YMCA in Indiana. We don’t live on a lake, though there are many lakes and ponds around here. I just wanted to put this here to give you an idea of how the sky looked this morning here at Echowood.

There are some trees across the way in the cul-de-sac that have changed from green to gold, and in the pink light, their leaves looked like they were made of rose gold. The reddish pine needles on the ground created a glowing net of copper over the grass. Our red van, parked in the driveway, almost looked like it was made out of cherry Kool-Aid, so shiny and bright it looked in that pink wash of light.

As I headed outside with papers for the recycling bin, it started to rain a bit. And now, three hours later, the wind is blowing, leaves are falling, and acorns are plopping loudly on the skylight above my head. Ah, autumn! My favorite season!
