One month ago today, I took the plunge and decided to start my own blog. I was inspired to do so by some of the beautiful, interesting blogs of friends and strangers. It occurred to me that, were I to have a blog of my own, I might spend more time doing and less time reading. I had a strong desire not to read my life away.
What an adventure this has been so far! I’ve met some really wonderful folks in the blog world and have been able to keep friends and family updated on the various episodes from my life. When I first started, I didn’t even tell anyone I was doing a blog. Then, after a few days, I told a couple of people. Then, I discovered that people I’d never even met before were checking in to view my posts. So I told a few more people.
As of this writing, I’ve had nearly 500 views of my blog. (499, to be exact!) I never expected that. After a month, I thought it would be nice if maybe two or three friends dropped by every so often. So I am amazed and pleased.
Thanks to everyone who has dropped by, however you found your way here. Because of you, this whole blogging experience has far surpassed my expectations. I look forward to writing many more epistles, and I hope you will all feel free to leave comments and share your own thoughts about things with me and whoever else is reading.
If anyone is thinking of starting a blog of his/her own and is still unsure…..I say, in a Scottish accent, “Go for it! It’ll be great!”

“Epistles” is a good term! I like that better than “postings.” Too bad I’m not tech-savvy enough to rewrite the code on my blog to say “epitsles!”

ladonnamobile, you’re funny! I don’t really like the word “epistles,” actually, but I chose it for two reasons: 1) It starts with an E, which goes with the name of our homeplace, Echowood; and 2) I can never just write a few lines—every e-mail, every blog post, every “snail mail” letter I write turns into a long missive. An epistle, if you will. (My mom always accuses me of writing “Gone With the Wind” every time I sit down to write, as she knows I simply do not have the capacity to keep it short!) Oh, and I guess there’s a third reason, too, which is that I do think of myself as addressing my blog posts to all my dear friends, so in that sense, they are indeed letters (epistles). In all, it just seems like the right word!

Congrats on your one month anniversary! I just (silently) celebrated my one year blog anniversary a few days ago. I meant to post about it, but then didn’t. I guess it is just a busy time of year, and I let the day slip right past.
I’ll be excited to see YOUR one year announcement next November!
