The Poinsettia Project, Part II

Poinsettia

Here we are, the end of February, and my poinsettia finally has some red leaves!

I wimped out on taking proper care of the plant this past fall, so it didn’t end up looking festive in time for Christmas. It was only just in time for Valentine’s Day that it started to show some red. And, so far, the entire plant isn’t looking like it’s going to produce red bracts from each branch. All the new red leaves seem to be on one side. I don’t think it has much to do with sunlight, since I make a point of rotating the pot on a regular basis.

I haven’t decided what to do with it next. I’m afraid if I plant it outdoors, it won’t live through the hot/cold temperature fluctuations of Tallahassee weather. Not that it gets that cold here, but we do get frosts sometimes during the winter, and I’m pretty sure that would do it for the poinsettia, especially as I don’t think I could count on myself to run outside and cover the poor thing with a blanket when the forecast calls for cold.

In the meantime, though, it is getting rather big for an indoor plant, and something must be done. Any suggestions?
