Spring is officially here!
Yesterday morning, as Urban and I were leaving the house to head to the bus stop, the wind was blowing and leaves were whirling and swirling down the street, and there was the most heavenly perfume in the air. I don’t know if it was the first Confederate jasmine of the season, or honeysuckle, or Carolina jessamine, or what, but oh, it smelled so delightful!
There are dogwoods and Bradford pears and chinaberry trees in bloom all over the place. The azaleas are still in full swing, and there are even a few camellias, redbuds, and tulip trees with flowers still on them.
Our first spring here at Echowood was just a year ago, and I remember how fun it was to discover the identities of all the various plants and trees in our yard. We’d moved in in August, when everything, except the crepe myrtle and the hydrangea bush, was just plain leafy green. Discovering we had so many flowering “things” on our property was wonderful.
The lilies, shown below, are an example. There are clusters of them all over the place on one side of our backyard. There are even a few strewn in with the azaleas out front. I’d been looking forward to seeing them again this year and was happy to see them appear in time for Easter.
Last night, my husband came home from work, gave me a big hug, and told me he loved me. He doesn’t generally do that out of the blue, so I knew whatever thoughts had plagued him the night before and that morning had finally gone. I was much relieved.
Also last night, we dyed Easter eggs. For some reason, the designs we drew on with crayons didn’t seem to stick very well—I think it might be because the eggs were damp (condensation, from having been kept in the fridge). Still, we used the McCormick “Neon” food colors, and I think they turned out really pretty.
A Happy and Blessed Springtime, to all my blog friends!

Your lillies are just beautiful! I came across your blog through Catholic Mothers Online. I also am married to a non-Catholic and can relate to some of your feelings. Even though my husband attends Mass with us, it’s still difficult to share fully when there are so many issues that divide us. It’s especially difficult when the children have questions and there’s a difference in what we believe! I just continue to pray for his conversion.
!
Anyway, I’m enjoying browsing through your blog. I’ll be back to look some more

Hi,Lisa! Nice to “meet” you.
I’m glad you like the lilies—and the best part is, I didn’t have to do anything to get them there! I don’t know if the previous owners planted them or if they just kind of turn up naturally around here or what. But they’re lovely. It’s always nice to connect with others who are in a similar situation of being married to a non-Catholic. I think we can learn a lot from each other and be good support during the rough times. I can definitely relate to the part about the kids asking questions. My boys are still so young, but already there are a lot of questions from the oldest. I have no idea how all this is going to turn out, but I’m trusting the Lord to guide us all in the right direction. I’m off to check out your blog right now. Thanks for visiting me here, and have a Happy Easter! ~ Kimberly
