Lost and Found

Yesterday, the dog went missing.
I let him out in the morning before we left for church. Then, we came home right after the service, so I decided to head straight back out to attend the 10:15 Mass—I didn’t even go into the house, just hopped in the driver’s seat and took off.
Brian made ham [...]

Fun Movie

Have you ever seen The Parent Trap?  The one with Hayley Mills, I mean.  I’d nearly forgotten how much I love that movie, it had been so long since I’d watched it last.
Last night I was feeling restless.  Had a bunch of clothes to fold and didn’t feel like listening to the radio.  There was [...]

The Mistake I’ve Been Making

There are lots of them, actually.
But the one that has become glaringly apparent to me just recently is this:  Here I have been praying and praying (and feeling guilty for not praying enough) for my husband to become Catholic.
I’ve been frustrated, wondered why he couldn’t see the so-very-obvious (to me and other Catholic converts) aspects [...]

The Reluctant Blogger

I’ve been doing loads of writing lately—just not on this blog, I’m afraid. The novel I am working on is taking up all the space in my brain, and I’ve found myself either unable or unwilling (or maybe both) to come up with new ideas to share with you here at Epistles from Echowood.
But [...]

Big Bowl o’ Little Tomatoes (and how I used some of them!)

The cherry tomatoes are in—in a big way! They’re the size of small grapes, loaded with seeds, and absolutely delicious! Not much to do with them except put them in salads, though. See below for one of our favorites.

RECIPE: SOUTHWEST SALAD
For the dressing:
2/3 cup Miracle Whip
1/3 cup milk
1 Tablespoon lime juice [...]

Father’s Day, This ‘n’ That

I’m not sure there are any fathers who read this blog, but I’ll say Happy Father’s Day anyway!
My husband’s birthday always falls within a few days of Father’s Day, which means I always have to put on my proverbial thinking cap to come up with gift ideas for him.  This year, it’s been all about [...]

Boys on Horses, Etc.

We went to a birthday party this past Saturday at a local place called “The Painted Pony.” The kids all got to have horseback rides—they had a blast.
Here are a few pics from that. (I took liberties with my photo editing program on Levi’s and Charlie’s, but Urban told me he liked his [...]

Hydrangeas!

Well, a few weeks ago, I shared with you about the oak leaf hydrangeas blooming in my backyard. Now, in the front, along the white picket fence that separates us from our party-boy neighbors, we have “regular” hydrangeas in flower. The photo below is one of three hydrangeas bushes.

I’m not sure what variety [...]

Got No Rhythm

Yesterday, the boys and I had a “dance party” in the living room.
We used to do this with some regularity, especially during the year I homeschooled Urban for kindergarten. But we hadn’t had one in ages, so it seemed like a fun way to kick off our summer.
Charlie loves to dance. Probably we [...]

Feeding the Ducks at Lake Ella

Yesterday after church, we went to Lake Ella to feed the ducks. You’re not “supposed” to—it’s supposedly bad for the ducks if people feed them—but everybody does it, and it’s fun for the kids.
The boys had a great time.

And we enjoyed watching the ducks (the babies are my favorite!).

This cormorant had no interest in [...]
