Yesterday after church, we went to Lake Ella to feed the ducks. You’re not “supposed” to—it’s supposedly bad for the ducks if people feed them—but everybody does it, and it’s fun for the kids.
The boys had a great time.
And we enjoyed watching the ducks (the babies are my favorite!).
This cormorant had no interest in the bread folks were tossing, but he hung around because the bread bits attracted fish, which he was interested in.
These turtles have shells bigger than dinner plates.
We were surprised to find this huge soft-shell turtle up on land. We watched as it slowly made its way back down to the water. It was a rather steep drop for a turtle; he had to just flop in onto his back and flip over. The boys were greatly amused by this!
It was a lovely day…….

Kimberly –
What a nice afternoon! Have to ask – are the soft shell turtles common in your area? The one that came out of the water looks positively prehistoric. This is the first I’ve ever seen one. Peace. ~~~mary

Hi Mary,
I’ve only seen the soft-shell turtles there at Lake Ella (in Tallahassee)—other parks we’ve been to, I haven’t noticed any. They are certainly odd looking, with their pointy noses and beady eyes and pale shells. The one in the photo was probably a foot-and-half long…? Thanks for visiting my blog!
