I’m not sure there are any fathers who read this blog, but I’ll say Happy Father’s Day anyway!
My husband’s birthday always falls within a few days of Father’s Day, which means I always have to put on my proverbial thinking cap to come up with gift ideas for him. This year, it’s been all about the Muppets—DVDs of seasons 2 and 3, to be exact. And also, the new Indiana Jones LEGO computer game, which “the guys” are engrossed in even as I type this.
I would love to show you a picture from the b-day party on Friday, but alas, I’m having to use the laptop, and I can’t edit photos here. But it was lovely family fun. We had lasagna and butter pecan cake, the recipe for which I found in the Taste of Home baking cookbook—it was even submitted by someone from Tallahassee, so how cool is that?
In other news…..let’s see….what can I tell you? One of our red peppers is almost ready to pick. We’ve got cherry tomatoes “coming out our ears” (as Brian would say). Our cucumbers have failed miserably. I don’t think cucumbers are meant to be part of a Southern porch garden—it’s simply too hot for them. We might manage to get one or two we can pick, but that would be a real stroke of luck.
Yesterday I finished reading a completely wonderful novel—The Rogue’s Redemption, by Ruth Axtell Morren. It’s set in Regency England and also in Maine. The hero is perfectly wonderful, the heroine is wonderfully perfect, and their story is absolutely delightful. It reminded me a bit of a Georgette Heyer novel. Just terrific, and I was sorry to see it come to an end.
Similarly, I was sorry to finish watching The Lord of the Rings trilogy last night. All that adventure and excitement! Brian reminded me that we have lots of other good movies we can watch, but to me, they’re not the same. Oh well.
Sorry this is so boring. Lately I’m having those “why did I ever start this blog?” thoughts. My mind is elsewhere. But, as my mom is so fond of saying, “This too shall pass.”
I will write to you again soon!

Thank you! Yes, you have at least one dad that reads your blog and if Friday (June 13th) was your husbands birthday, your husband and I share birthdays.

Wow, MJ! That’s quite a coincidence! To have the (probably only) male reader of my blog have the same birthday as my husband (who does not read my blog, by the way—at least, I don’t think he does)….who would’ve thought?
I hope you had a wonderful birthday and Father’s Day!
