The cherry tomatoes are in—in a big way! They’re the size of small grapes, loaded with seeds, and absolutely delicious! Not much to do with them except put them in salads, though. See below for one of our favorites.
RECIPE: SOUTHWEST SALAD
For the dressing:
2/3 cup Miracle Whip
1/3 cup milk
1 Tablespoon lime juice (you can use lemon if that’s all you have)
1 Tablespoon cumin
1 Tablespoon cilantro (chopped fresh is best, but dried is fine)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
Whisk all ingredients together in a small mixing bowl, then place in the fridge to keep cold while you assemble the salad.
For the salad:
Lettuce – one head of whatever kind you want (I like red leaf for this), shredded
Onion – red is good, but white or yellow is fine – however much you want….1/4 cup is a good amount
1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 can kernel corn or garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed
Croutons – throw some on (maybe 1 cup of them)
Shredded cheese – whatever kind, however much you like; I usually use cheddar
Tomatoes – grape or cherry (cut in half), or use one regular-sized tomato, chopped
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl. Put just half of the dressing on to start; mix well, then add more dressing, as desired (sometimes the full recipe is too much, depending on how much salad you end up with).
This salad has wonderful flavors and tastes so fresh. If you try it, I hope you’ll like it as much as we do!

This year, we have both a cherry tomato plant and a grape tomato plant. I figure we’ll have enough tiny tomatoes to pave our driveway.
