Hello, Friends! As you see, I’ve pretty much finished remodeling my blog. It didn’t take nearly as long as I thought it would, and though it was a definite challenge at times, it was really fun!
It’s Monday again; time for The Simple Woman’s Daybook.
Outside My Window…It’s unbearably hot and humid. The sun is peeking through the trees, so it looks like we’re in for another balmy day. The yard is still a mess, but as the whole family is at home for Labor Day, we’re planning to get out there and do some serious clean-up.
I am thinking…That John McCain’s choice of a running mate is like a breath of fresh air. I have been dreading this election—and have been totally sick of hearing about it. But the possibility of Sarah Palin for Vice President…..well, it certainly makes this whole dreary mess a lot more interesting, no matter what “side” you’re on!
I am thankful for…This three-day weekend. It’s nice to have an extra day without obligations.
From the kitchen…My husband is going to make roasted chicken later today—he’ll probably season it with fresh rosemary. (The plan was for a lemon, but all the lemons at Wally’s yesterday were moldy! Yuck!)
I am wearing…My nightgown and bathrobe, hair in a braid.
I am creating…A fresh new look for my blog. Yes, that was a couple of days ago; but hey, I’m at a loss on this one, and anyway it’s an ongoing process….right?
I am going…To donate some old videos to Goodwill. Example: Robin Hood, starring Kevin Costner. I loved this movie when it came out in 1991—saw it in the theater with my old friend Kimmy Diane. I recently found a VHS copy of it when I was out thrifting with my mom. I tried to watch it the other day. Ugh. Morgan Freeman—awesome. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio’s hair—gorgeous. Alan Rickman—totally creepy. Kevin Costner’s (attempt at an) English accent—appalling. I watched half and couldn’t bring myself to finish it. Another example would be the Drew Barrymore movie Ever After. Loved it years ago, but my recent viewing of it was less than thrilling. Obviously the films haven’t changed. It’s me. But in any case, no sense hanging on to these when someone else might enjoy them.
I am reading…Captain Wentworth’s Diary by Amanda Grange; Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge (almost finished); the book of Acts in the Bible; and the July issue of Ladies’ Home Journal magazine.
I am hoping…You like the new look of my blog, as I did work very hard on it.
I’ve already had two positive remarks so far—thanks, Poofergirl and Angie!
I am hearing…Really noisy trucks outside—garbage pick-up? Recycling truck? Or maybe it’s a tree service, hacking up that tree that fell onto our neighbor’s swimming pool. Don’t know what, but it’s LOUD!
Around the house…Everything’s a mess. I’ve got loads of clean dishes to put away and more to wash; a big basket of laundry to put away and more to fold; need to vacuum (I always need to vacuum!); the kids have toys to clean up. But right now they’re having fun playing with the Play-Doh that Levi got for his birthday.
One of my favorite things…Green olives. Not a big fan of black, but green…..oh yum.
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Tidy the house; get some exercise; help Charlie with his “learning” (as he calls our homeschool/preschool lessons); go to church to sign the little boys up for nursery during apologetics/Bible study this fall.
Here is a picture thought I am sharing…
A cute little frog left these prints in the condensation on our sliding glass door the other day.
Be sure to visit Peggy to read more daybooks and/or get the guidelines so you can participate, too!
Have a wonderful week!

I love the blog remodel and your pretty picture on the side!
I’m jealous that you have a husband who makes roasted chicken, and even more jealous of your warm weather and froggy tracks.
I have to laugh about the movie thing–isn’t that so true? I recently talked my husband into watching an old high school favorite of mine and we were both gagging through the whole thing. I was so embarassed to think I had actually liked such movies at one time in my life–lol

I enjoyed reading your daybook
LOL at the movies, I feel the same way, there’s some I absolutely adored and now I just shake my head and wonder what I ever liked about it.

I totally agree on the whole election. It’s getting interesting! I live in Mn, so you should just HEAR the newscasters. Think about it, it’s prob. the news events of their careers.
What’s up with stores selling moldy food? I commented (a bit too loudly) a few months ago to my dd that I was shocked that that the store expected me to pay $5 a pound for something I’d throw to the hogs if I had a farm. People just LQQKed at me, like I was the one that was nuts (and they continued to fill their bags with produce)???? What can I say, I like my food fresh
Have a fantastic week!

Hi Kim,
Really enjoyed your latest daybook… and love the remodeling of your page… very warm. It’s funny you should talk about old movies because with my husband away this week I’ve been watching a lot of older ones, and they sound a lot better than the two you mentioned. If you are interested, you should check out Now, Voyager or An Affair To Remember… classic.
Hope you’re well… look forward to hearing from you sometime…
