Don’t you just love October? Especially if you live in the American South, like I do, this is the time of year when the weather begins to cool. One of the best things in the world is being able to sleep with the windows open, and this is the time, after a long, hot summer, that we can finally do it! Bliss!
My boys were begging for popsicles this afternoon. The playdate we had planned didn’t pan out, and they were bummed, so I figured the least I could do was indulge them this simple pleasure.
I figured I might as well grab my camera and capture some scenes from around the back yard. It’s a mish-mash of this and that, but oh well!

The long view. That green tent back there is HUGE - sleeps more than 6! We have a pretty big back yard.

The peppers on the back porch garden. (Observe the large assortment of acorns and dead leaves; this is fall in Northern Florida.)

Our first batch o' cucumbers got some kind of funky wilt and died. Then they grew back! I had a hard time getting a decent shot of them (the little vine tendrils are stuck to the screen door). I am SOOO hoping these fruit this time!

I think these are called beautyberries. You can spot them from really far away because they're so bright! You can't eat them, though.

The largest of our two banana trees. Unfortunately, it doesn't get hot enough, long enough, here for them to make fruit.
Hope you’ve enjoyed this glimpse into my back yard on a gorgeous fall day. Have an awesome October, everyone!

I am so happy that we are rapidly approaching when we can turn the a/c off (until next May, hopefully!). It’s still a bit too unbearable during the day to open the windows, but I’m hoping no later than mid-Oct. to have the windows flung open (and that none of the neighbors will be noisy LOL). I’m jealous of your banana trees. They are on my garden wish list.
