Recipe: Cranberry Coffee Cake

My mom shared this recipe with me years ago.  It’s perfect to make around the holidays, when cranberries are so readily available at all the grocery stores.  I like to stock up and freeze them, so I can make this wonderful coffee cake year-round.  It’s a special treat for breakfast—or anytime!—and definitely goes great with [...]

The Last Little Peppers

This past Friday, I picked the last red peppers from the porch garden.  We used them in the chicken fajitas we had for dinner before we left on our camping trip.
Being as they were the last, I couldn’t resist taking a picture to commemorate the occasion.
My Levi is an adorable fellow, but when it comes [...]

Recipe: Hot Reuben Dip

I promised this recipe a couple of weeks ago, but then I took my blogging break and didn’t get around to it. I had trouble getting a good photo of it, but below you can see what it looks like when it comes out of the oven.
This recipe comes from a cookbook called Prijatno!, a [...]

Recipe: Festive Tossed Salad

By now, everybody and their grandmother has this recipe.  I got it from my mom, who got it from her oldest friend, Sharon, who got it from a lady who brought it to a shower.  My whole family calls it “Shower Salad!”
Well, just in case you and your granny haven’t seen it yet, it really [...]

Recipe: Stack-A-Meal

My husband, Brian, first made this dish for me when we were in college. I took one look at it and went, “What in the world is this?” It seemed like such an odd combination of ingredients.
And yet, it is sooooo good. It’s one of my favorite things to have for supper. [...]

Recipe: Sausage & White Bean Pasta

I’ve been feeling hideous-guilty for not updating my blog more often. I just don’t have much to say. Well, that’s not true; I do have things to say—I’m just wanting to be careful before I say them and/or I’m being lazy about putting things in order so I can share them with you. [...]

Big Bowl o’ Little Tomatoes (and how I used some of them!)

The cherry tomatoes are in—in a big way! They’re the size of small grapes, loaded with seeds, and absolutely delicious! Not much to do with them except put them in salads, though. See below for one of our favorites.

RECIPE: SOUTHWEST SALAD
For the dressing:
2/3 cup Miracle Whip
1/3 cup milk
1 Tablespoon lime juice [...]

Father’s Day, This ‘n’ That

I’m not sure there are any fathers who read this blog, but I’ll say Happy Father’s Day anyway!
My husband’s birthday always falls within a few days of Father’s Day, which means I always have to put on my proverbial thinking cap to come up with gift ideas for him.  This year, it’s been all about [...]

A Southern Porch Garden

I’ve been meaning for weeks to tell you about my porch garden.
If memory serves, we began the weekend after Easter. I’ve taken photos along the way. Here’s what the porch garden looked like about two weeks ago:

On the far left, we have thyme and oregano, plus some very small canterbury bells seedlings that [...]
