In the gray and gloom of yesterday, I was very glad I had taken the time to snap these few shots of the gorgeous blue sky we’d had the day before.
When I emerged from Bible study on Monday, the patch of sky over the church was that rare bluest-blue—so bright it fairly glows, so rich [...]

The Simple Woman’s Daybook for 10/6/08
Hello Friends! Is it just me, or did last week seem really long? Anyway, it’s Monday once more, and time for The Simple Woman’s Daybook, hosted by Peggy. Seems like this is the mainstay of my blogging these days…..oh well!
Outside My Window…Pitch black, hopefully cool! The back porch garden is in severe need of watering—that’s [...]

On the First of October
Don’t you just love October? Especially if you live in the American South, like I do, this is the time of year when the weather begins to cool. One of the best things in the world is being able to sleep with the windows open, and this is the time, after a long, hot summer, [...]

Sunrise
A friend asked for more pictures to help her “place” me in my world here at Echowood. For you, dear heart, and for anyone else who cares—here is the view from my back porch every morning at sunrise. (I took these shots yesterday, shortly after 7:30 a.m.)
Why are these things always so much lovelier in [...]

One Thing ‘Fay’ Did…
Was knock down this tree in our yard. More like, “pull it out by the roots,” actually. It knocked over the fence and fell straight across our neighbor’s swimming pool. Amazingly, it was just short enough that it didn’t hit their house—just sort of “brushed” it. (This tree is bigger than [...]

Time for Hibiscus
The hibiscus are in bloom!
There are so many different varieties of this flowering plant. In Texas, we had a couple near our living room window. They would die every fall and grow back up from the ground every summer, producing enormous red-orange blooms. Here at Echowood, we have four “trees” of hibiscus [...]

Trumpet Vine
We had one great big trumpet vine plant growing against a back fence at our house in Texas. It was totally wild and invasive, and Brian was always having to go out and whack it down to keep it from taking over the entire back yard.
Here in Florida, we have a much larger [...]

Hydrangeas!
Well, a few weeks ago, I shared with you about the oak leaf hydrangeas blooming in my backyard. Now, in the front, along the white picket fence that separates us from our party-boy neighbors, we have “regular” hydrangeas in flower. The photo below is one of three hydrangeas bushes.
I’m not sure what variety [...]

Feeding the Ducks at Lake Ella
Yesterday after church, we went to Lake Ella to feed the ducks. You’re not “supposed” to—it’s supposedly bad for the ducks if people feed them—but everybody does it, and it’s fun for the kids.
The boys had a great time.
And we enjoyed watching the ducks (the babies are my favorite!).
This cormorant had no interest in [...]

Falling in Love With Gardenias
Here at Echowood, we have four big gardenia bushes along the fence that separates the front yard from the back on the east side of our house.
They are in bloom now, and they are gorgeous!
I took these picture about three days ago; there are about five times as many flowers now. Levi was with [...]
